Liliha Bakery

Downtown Honolulu · Oahu

A retro diner and bakery on North Kuakini Street that's been a Honolulu institution since 1950, famous for one thing above all else: Coco Puffs. These aren't the cereal — they're choux pastry puffs filled with chocolate pudding and topped with signature Chantilly frosting. They're outrageously good, and locals line up for them every morning.

Beyond the Coco Puffs, Liliha is a legit old-school diner with counter seating, friendly staff who've been here forever, and plate lunches that could feed two people. The loco moco is legendary, the mahi mahi sandwich is perfectly grilled and stuffed with fresh fixings, and don't sleep on those Hawaiian sweet bread French toast slabs. It's the kind of downtown Oahu spot where regulars have been eating every week for 40 years.

💡 Insider Tip

Get the Coco Puffs and butter rolls (obviously) but also try the mochi donuts and passion fruit cupcakes. Come early or call ahead — lines get long and popular items sell out. Watch for chickens roaming the parking lot.
