Roam Aloha ("we," "our," or "the App") is operated by Epic Design Labs. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website at roamaloha.app and our iOS mobile application.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Roam Aloha is designed to be used without creating an account, and we collect minimal data.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Trip data: Locations you save to your trip itinerary are stored locally on your device using browser storage. If you choose to share your trip, a copy is saved to our servers so others can view it via a shared link.
- Contact information: If you contact us directly (e.g., via email), we may retain your message and contact details to respond to your inquiry.
Information Collected Automatically
- Analytics data: We use privacy-focused analytics to understand how people use the app. This includes pages visited, general device type, and approximate geographic region. We do not track individual users across sessions or sell this data.
- Location data (mobile app only): If you grant permission, the app may access your device location to show nearby spots and notify you when you're near trip stops. Location data is processed on your device and is not sent to our servers. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
- Camera and photos (mobile app only): If you grant permission, the app may access your camera or photo library to let you capture or attach photos. Photos are not uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly choose to share them.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require account creation to use Roam Aloha.
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or payment information through normal app usage.
- We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to third parties.
- We do not use cookies for tracking purposes. Any cookies are strictly functional (e.g., session management).
How We Use Information
- To provide and improve the Roam Aloha experience
- To understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g., which islands are most popular)
- To enable trip sharing when you choose to share your itinerary
- To send proximity notifications when you're near trip stops (mobile app, with your permission)
Data Storage and Security
Trip data is stored locally on your device by default. Shared trips are stored on secure servers hosted by Render (render.com) in the United States. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit.
We retain shared trip data for as long as the shared link is active. You can delete your local trip data at any time by clearing your browser or app storage.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Vercel: Website hosting and content delivery
- Render: Database and server hosting
- Cloudflare: Image delivery (CDN)
- Mapbox: Map display — subject to Mapbox's Privacy Policy
When you book activities through our affiliate links (e.g., FareHarbor, Peek), you are directed to those third-party platforms, which have their own privacy policies.
Children's Privacy
Roam Aloha is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you (which is minimal)
- Request deletion of any shared trip data
- Revoke device permissions (location, camera) at any time through your device settings
- Opt out of analytics by using a browser that blocks analytics scripts
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
