Nu'uanu Pali Lookout

Windward · Oahu

This windswept lookout on Nuuanu Pali Drive is hands-down one of Oahu's most dramatic spots — 1,200 feet above the Windward Coast where the sheer green Ko'olau cliffs plunge down to Kaneohe Bay. The winds here are absolutely wild (we're talking 40+ mph regularly) and can literally hold you up if you lean into them. There are two viewing levels, so you can find different angles for photos.

This isn't just about the views though — you're standing where King Kamehameha I drove defending warriors over these cliffs in 1795's Battle of Nu'uanu, uniting Oahu under his rule. You can genuinely feel the weight of that history here, especially with the monument honoring the female warriors who fought. The drive up through lush Nu'uanu Valley is gorgeous too.
