Ehukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline)

North Shore · Oahu

Home of the most famous wave in surfing, right on Ke Nui Road in Haleiwa. Banzai Pipeline breaks over a shallow reef shelf, creating those impossibly hollow barrels you've seen in every surf movie. In winter, the world's best surfers compete here during the Triple Crown, and the beach is packed with spectators watching pure athleticism unfold.

In summer, it transforms into a completely different spot — calm, wide stretch of golden sand where families spread out and kids play safely. You'll often spot Hawaiian green sea turtles basking on the shore. Both seasons are worth visiting for totally different vibes, and parking across the street is surprisingly easy even when it gets busy.

💡 Insider Tip

Best wave-watching is right in front of the Ehukai lifeguard tower — bring binoculars to catch the action up close. Check the Vans Triple Crown schedule for free competition viewing in December and January.
