A dramatic geological formation on the northwest tip of Maui where wind and waves have carved jagged, tooth-like spires out of the shoreline lava rock. The formations are otherworldly — sharp white-grey lava spikes jutting up against the deep blue ocean with Molokai in the distance. The 10-minute walk from the Kapalua parking area crosses an open lava field to reach this ancient-feeling coastline. You'll also find the Makaluapuna labyrinth nearby — a stone walking maze built on the lava flat that's become a meditative spot (and surprisingly fun if you have kids). The whole area feels powerful and primordial, perfect for photos that don't quite capture how breathtaking it really is.
💡 Insider Tip
Parking is now $29/day at the official lot, but you can park free at Honolua Store and walk 7-10 minutes along the road. Wear real shoes — flip-flops work but closed shoes are better on the sharp lava rock. Early morning light is magical for photos.
