James Michener called Hamoa Beach the most beautiful beach in the Pacific, and honestly? He wasn't wrong. This crescent-shaped beauty just past Hana town features unique salt-and-pepper sand framed by dramatic sea cliffs and lush jungle. The Travaasa Hana resort maintains the facilities (thank them for the showers and porta potties), but the beach stays public.
The bodysurfing here is incredible when swells are running, though those waves pack serious power — locals respect that shorebreak and you should too. The water runs surprisingly clear and stays waist-deep pretty far out, making it great for swimming when conditions calm down. Just know you might not see much marine life while snorkeling.
💡 Insider Tip
Arrive early for the limited roadside parking, then take the steps down. The left side of the beach stays calmer for swimming, and those ironwood trees provide great shade even if they drop some debris.
