The biggest, most beautiful stretch of undeveloped beach on Maui's south shore along Makena Alanui. This wide crescent of golden sand is what Hawaiian beaches looked like before resorts — absolutely stunning and completely undeveloped. The bodysurfing here is incredible, but these waves are serious business and demand respect. Lifeguards are on duty, but the shore break is intense, so this isn't beginner swimming territory. Walk north over the rocks to find Little Beach, famous for its clothing-optional vibe and Sunday drum circles. Bring everything you need — there are no bathrooms, showers, or food vendors on the beach itself, though food trucks park nearby. Parking fills up fast and costs money, but you can find free street parking if you arrive early.
💡 Insider Tip
Skip the paid parking lots and hunt for free street parking along Makena Alanui if you arrive before 9 AM. Bring an umbrella or pop-up tent — the sand gets scorching and there's almost no natural shade.
