This powerful natural blowhole on Maui's rugged northwest coast shoots water up to 100 feet through a hole in the lava shelf — it's absolutely thunderous when the swells are big. The drive out is half the adventure: winding, scenic road with killer views, but definitely not for nervous drivers. Park roadside near Mile Marker 38 and prepare for the 'hike' down — and I use that term loosely since there's no real trail, just scrambling over slippery lava rock. It's more like bouldering in spots, so ditch the flip-flops. The Instagram-famous heart-shaped rock formation is nearby, and on clear days you'll see Molokai across the channel. The blowhole performs best during big north/northwest swells — check surf reports before you go.
💡 Insider Tip
Parking costs $20 for tourists now, and grab banana bread from the vendor who's been there 13 years — locals swear it's the best on the islands. Go early morning for better parking and photos, and seriously, stay way back from the blowhole.
