Kapalua Coastal Trail

West Maui · Maui

This gorgeous 1.76-mile paved coastal trail in West Maui connects Kapalua Bay to D.T. Fleming Beach, winding through ironwood groves and past dramatic lava rock coastline. It's hands down one of Maui's most beautiful easy walks — perfect for families (even 4-year-olds can handle it) and anyone wanting stunning ocean views without breaking a sweat.

The trail passes Dragon's Teeth lava formations at Makaluapuna Point, tide pools, and a seabird nesting area (fair warning: it's pretty stinky). You'll hit two beaches along the way — narrow, calm Kapalua Bay that's perfect for snorkeling, and wider D.T. Fleming with rougher surf. In winter, keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales breaching offshore. Takes about an hour at a leisurely pace, though it gets windy out there so dress accordingly.

💡 Insider Tip

Park at the tennis club for $15 (totally worth it) and arrive before 10am for easier parking. Wear real shoes, not sandals — the lava rocks near tide pools get gnarly. Start from D.T. Fleming side for the best views.
