The single best snorkeling spot on Maui — and I'll die on this hill. Honolua Bay is a protected marine preserve on Maui's northwest tip where the coral and fish life will blow your mind. You'll spot green sea turtles (almost guaranteed), massive parrotfish, rays, and vibrant coral formations in crystal-clear water.
The 15-minute walk down through the enchanting ironwood forest is half the magic. But fair warning: entry is tricky over slippery boulders, so water shoes are non-negotiable. Snorkeling is best May–September when waters are calm. Come winter, this transforms into one of Maui's most legendary surf breaks.
💡 Insider Tip
Enter from the rocky right side and swim straight out — the water gets clearer and more abundant with sea life the farther you go. Arrive early for roadside parking and best visibility before crowds stir up the nearshore waters.
