This tiny, picturesque bay in Kahaluu-Keauhou is where the magic happens both above and below water. By day, it's a working fishing port that doubles as perfect snorkeling — enter to the left of the tree stump and glide over algae-covered rocks into deeper water with neat ledges and coral. You'll spot octopus in surprisingly shallow water, plus a resident turtle and tons of colorful fish.
At night, Keauhou Bay transforms into manta ray central. The boats launch from here, but honestly? Skip the tour and walk through the Sheraton Kona grounds to adjacent He'eia Bay for even better protected snorkeling. A small monument marks Kamehameha III's birthplace, and there's a mango tree nearby that locals know about.
💡 Insider Tip
Hit the water before 7am when it's glassy calm for the best snorkeling. At night, watch free manta rays from the Sheraton's seawall — their spotlight attracts plankton, which brings the rays right to shore.
