The paved trail to Makapu'u Point Lighthouse is Oahu's most accessible hike with million-dollar views. This 1.2-mile climb along the windward coast delivers panoramic vistas of turquoise waters, Rabbit Island, and on clear days, Molokai and Lanai. The steady incline takes about 35 minutes, but rest stops with historical markers give you perfect excuses to catch your breath and soak in the scenery.
From December through March, this is prime humpback whale watching territory — you'll spot breaching whales in the waters below without even trying. The lighthouse itself features a unique lens design used nowhere else in the world. Just know there's zero shade and no public restrooms, so plan accordingly.
💡 Insider Tip
Arrive right at 7am when the parking lot opens to snag a spot and beat both crowds and heat. If you're driving up from Waikiki, book your Uber return before you start hiking — cell service is sketchy in the parking area.
