Of the three Kamaole beaches lined up along South Kihei Road in South Maui, Kam III is hands down the locals' favorite. The wide golden sand beach has everything you need: daily lifeguards until 4:30pm, clean bathrooms and showers, plus a huge grassy park behind with picnic tables and shade trees. The waves here are perfect for boogie boarding and gentle enough for kids, though they can get bigger than the other Kamaole beaches.
What sets this Maui beach apart is the real neighborhood vibe — you'll see local families barbecuing on weekends and plenty of dogs playing in the grass. The rocky points on both ends create decent snorkeling (turtle sightings are common!), though visibility can be hit or miss. Just know it gets packed at sunset, and you might spot some transient folks around the park edges.
💡 Insider Tip
Skip the crowded sunset scene and come for sunrise instead — you'll have the beach mostly to yourself and better snorkeling visibility before the winds pick up.
