Volcano Art Center Gallery

Volcano · Big Island

Tucked inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park in the original 1877 Volcano House building, this gallery showcases incredible contemporary Hawaiian art inspired by the volcanic landscape around it. You'll find everything from ceramics fired with volcanic ash to stunning lava flow paintings and eruption photography - plus beautiful local jewelry, Koa bowls, and handmade pieces that make perfect souvenirs.

The historic building itself is a National Historic Landmark, and they rotate exhibits regularly so there's always something new. It's surprisingly spacious inside with a great selection, though prices tend to run $100+ for most pieces (there are some smaller, more affordable items too). Pro tip: there's a rare restroom with running water right outside - handy when the main visitor center facilities are closed.

💡 Insider Tip

Check their calendar for artist demonstrations and workshops - they do printmaking, painting, and lei-making sessions. Also, don't miss the sculpture garden and the amazing mosaics on the educational center next door!
