The Big Island's most beginner-friendly snorkeling spot, right on Ali'i Drive in Kailua-Kona. Wade in from the sandy shore and you're immediately swimming with tropical fish, sea turtles, and colorful coral - the ancient breakwater keeps this bay super calm and shallow. Even grandmas love it here! The rocky lava entrance can be slippery, so watch your footing or bring water shoes. There's a lifeguard, restrooms, showers, and gear rentals right on the sand. Gets packed by mid-morning, but there's enough marine life for everyone. The volunteer reef educators are amazing - they'll teach you to identify fish species for free.
💡 Insider Tip
Park on the street to avoid the $12 parking fee. The rocky entrance is easier at low tide, and if you swim out farther, you'll find even more variety of reef fish and soft coral.
